A Note From Tom

Dear Friends,

2007 was a very eventful year in many ways:

  • We attained the largest number of golfers and a record number of dinner guests.
  • The prepayment program was a great success with over 95% attainment.
  • The weather was the best to date.
  • Most importantly, we raised more dollars for the Scholarship fund then any preceding year.

The challenge now is how do we top the 2007 results?

Our 2008 J. Warren McClure Information Advisory Board Thomas Lonsbury Golf Classic, for the first time, will be held on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2ND, 2008 at the OHIO UNIVERSITY GOLF COURSE. The reception and sit down dinner will be at the OHIO UNIVERSITY INN. Weather permitting, the reception will be held on their terrace.

Water Hazard

These aforementioned changes are a wonderful start to what promises to be an outstanding year… BUT, we must have you involved- as a sponsor and/or participant. Each of you are an integral part of our "TEAM". So in addition to your continued support and participation, we need you to tell our story to potential sponsors, golfers and patrons.

We all know the current economic condition and how tight things are, but think about those parents trying to pay for their kid's tuition or the students working their own way through school. Then, imagine what it will mean to one of the students who will be receiving some assistance from our effort.

In his book, "Play Great Golf", Arnold Palmer lists the Five Fundamentals inherent in all good golf swings. Using that list, I transposed your participation and involvement to improve our 2008 Golf Classic:

  1. The Grip: Commit early to your sponsorship and golf registration.
  2. The Address: Contact potential sponsors and/or participants.
  3. The Takeaway: The path you take to sell them on getting involved.
  4. The Still Head: Your focus on your contacts and follow through.
  5. Acceleration: Increase your efforts until you get a commitment.
